As of 2012-2014 5.9% of children from the ages 2-19 are qualified as class 2 obesity. Scientist and Doctors say "When you put them in an environment like this one their more likely to gain a while lot of weight. That's part of whats going on." Kids that are obese are likely to have type 2 diabetes later in life and likely to have high cholesterol and high blood pressure. They are also at high risks for joint problems, sleeping issues and very low self-esteem. Children that grow up to be obese will spend anywhere between $12,000 and $19,000 in medical bills on average. When children are healthy they are in the 5-85th percentile and on overweight child falls anywhere between the 85-95th percentile, an obese child falls above the 95th percentile. The amount of obese kids had severely increased in the past 14 years, mainly in elementary girls and adolescent boys.
One in five American kids live off of $2 or less each day. The United States is the wealthiest country in the world but they have the second highest rate of child poverty. $23,834 is what the average American family of 4 makes in one year. The Detroit child poverty rate is nearly 60%, the highest poverty rate in The United States. Child advocates and academics say this happens because they have chosen to reject policies that would help not only families to succeed but the children as well."I'm inclined to believe them. I can't think child poverty -- with its nasty outcomes, like prison time, low educational achievement and poor health -- is inevitable." says John D. Sutter. People in the U.S are spending more money on weapons and and drugs than they are on supporting kids in school.
In my opinion there is no reason for parents to be spending more money on weapons and drugs than on getting their kids an education. I also think that the world, most importantly The United States needs to worry more about poverty. A lot of families are in desperate need of money but the government and parents themselves are spending more on weapons and drug use. According to government documents the Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been using planes to spy on Americans phones since 2010. These planes carry a box that serves as a dummy cell phone tower. This box tricks phones into connecting to this fake tower instead of an actual cell phone tower. "This is a disturbing progression of the federal government's use of this technology, What's different about this... is that it vastly increases the number of completely innocent bystanders whose information is being swept up by law enforcement." Says Nathan Freed Wessler. Officials at the Department of Justice say this is okay for government to do because it allows them to catch anyone who could be planning something that would be a threat to anyone in the country. The spying on Americans by our government has increased since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The equipment that the government in using in the planes is the same equipment that the police use when they are trying to find information about suspects. There is not much information to the public because the government doesn't want people aware that they really have no phone privacy.Oregon and Washington D.C have legalized the use of marijuana to adults ages 21 and older. These two states are making TV commercials to advertise marijuana and increase the sale. Anyone 21 and older is allowed to carry 2 ounce of marijuana at a time but only for personal use. You also now have the right to grow up to 6 cannabis plants in your home. You are not allowed to sell marijuana but you are allowed to transfer it, in other words marijuana can now only be traded or "donated" to another person 21 and older. Many stereotypes go around everyday about the people who choose to do marijuana. " I like weed, and I am a good person" says Robcat20 who is a very well known insurance agent. I think legalizing marijuana is a bad idea. I think it would be a better idea would be if the states are going to make sure that all health effects are mentioned and talked about in the advertisements. If the health effects are talked about even briefly I feel like it rest in the humans hands to make the right choices and use marijuana at their own risks. A bad effect people in Oregon and Washington D.C are worried about it is how many younger kids will try to be cool like their older friends and use marijuana as well.Glaciers are huge bodies of ice that are always changing. The glaciers in Antarctica and the Amazon are disappearing and mainly because of global warming or in other words, because of humans. The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel said "rising sea levels this century were already "unavoidable", threatening more flooding, coastal erosion and misery for millions of people." We are the cause of the glaciers melting because we are responsible for the rising of global temperatures. 2,000 scientist have been studying these glaciers for the past few years and they have research proving that global warming, humans, are the cause of the glaciers disappearing. The scientist research proves that even if we cut greenhouse gases temperatures will continue raising over the next 100 years. If the temperatures keep raising at the rate they are right now by 2100 the sea level will rise 7 to 23 inches. The temperatures rising is not only causing glaciers to melt it is raising the frequency of flooding. Since the sea level is rising 7-23 inches by 2100 over the years the oceans, rivers etc. will be very high and flood. With the amount of water their will be in the oceans and river there will be a lot of power to knock down houses and ruin farm lands. Nget Chaung is a camp in western Myanmar for displaced people. Their are nearly 6,000 people living their and more than half of them are children. "No-one should have to live in the conditions that we see in Nget Chaung," said Pierre Peron, spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Myanmar. Humanitarian teams that have visited Nget Chaung have all said "There's no livelihood, no opportunity at all." These camps are labeled as concentration camps because they have no human rights, and no physical or mental security. Experts say that the people here are better off being homeless than they are staying at this camp. There have been many disturbing deaths due to the people not being able to have medical care, some experts say " Its suffering I have never seen before." The people living in this camp want to leave and have no life there but no one is allowed to leave unless they are escorted by the police. This are some of the houses that the people live in.
A few days ago the 44 year old son of Joe Biden, Hunter, was discharged from the Navy due to testing positive for cocaine. Hunter is also a lawyer and a managing partner at an investment firm. He says "It was the honor of my life to serve in the U.S. Navy, and I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge. I respect the Navy's decision. With the love and support of my family, I'm moving forward." I respect him apologizing to the navy and agreeing they made the right decision but I think since he is looked at as a role model and protector of the country he shouldn't be making decisions like this. I think he's looked at as a role model because he's the son of the Vice President. The Vice President is some one who's looked towards as making good decisions and knowing Hunter is his son I think of him that way as well. Hunter is also a protector of this country. He fights for us to have freedom and have a good life so him doing drugs illegally doesn't seem right to me. I think if your in the navy you should be making the right decision and not doing drugs.http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/16/politics/hunter-biden-discharged-from-navy/index.html?hpt=hp_bn1
A 26 year old nurse Nina Pham is the first person known to catch Ebola without traveling to Africa. She caught it while treating Thomas Eric Duncan who was the first U.S citizen to die from Ebola. She received blood from Kent Brantly who survived this virus. According to Tom Frieden, who is the director of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Pham is stable and was taken directly into isolation. The investigators don't yet know how Pham caught Ebola considering she was wearing all the safety clothes every doctor has to wear. Even her pet dog Bentley has to be isolated because although dogs can hold off diseases he could be contagious. Ebola is much harder to catch than the flu or many other colds or diseases but its not a bad thing to worry about catching it on a plane ride. Although Ebola is rare in the US people don't show symptoms of this diseases until after about 21 days according to CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta. Experts say that it wouldn't be a bad idea to wear a surgical mask while on your flight. The airlines are doing all they can to keep the planes clean and healthy, cleaning lightly in between every flight and a heavy cleaning when its not flying. The airlines say people shouldn't be o worried about their flights because Ebola can only be caught if you have direct contact with the sick persons blood or body fluids. My opinion on all of this is that all airlines should cancel all flights to and from West Africa and if anyone has been there in the past 2 months they shouldn't be allowed on the flight. I think people should be able to go on a flight and not have to be worried at all if they are going to catch Ebola from another passenger.
In July of 2014 a homeless women was walking down a California freeway barefoot. Many drivers called 911 to help her and a police office by the name of Daniel Andrew arrived. The 51 year old women Marlene Pinnock, refused to stop and let him take her away. When we went to grab her she pushed him away. He then "struck her in the upper torso and head several times with a closed right fist." according to the reporter from ABC News. Daniel is being charged but none have been filed yet. The video went viral after a driver who was pulled over caught it on video and posted it all over you-tube and Facebook. When he got on top of her he then hand cuffed her and took her away. She ended up in the hospital and had a physical and mental evaluation. They found that she has bipolar and had been off medication for at least 2-3 months. i personally do not think this officer handled this situation correctly, ash he could of not punched her repeatedly after she was already lying on the ground. Some may argue that she pushed him first but he threw her to the ground and struck her in the face 15 or more times and he is twice the size of her. http://bossip.com/1037739/justice-black-homeless-woman-who-was-brutally-beat-by-white-california-cop-receives-1-5-million-settlement/
